A Brief History
Tobias Randolph McGahey, a surveyor, arrived in this lush area of rolling hills that was previously discovered by British colonial governor Alexander Spotswood. When he established a post office here in 1802, he used the name, “McGaheysville”. The name hasn’t changed up to the present.

McGaheysville offers plenty of opportunities for indoor and outdoor recreation. Known for being one of the best indoor waterparks in America, the Massanutten Indoor Waterpark has body slides, lazy river floats, water fortresses, and inflatable adventures for everyone to enjoy.
The Shenandoah National Park, which is less than 20 minutes away from McGaheysville, is a haven for nature lovers. The park boasts 200,000 acres of protected land filled with cascading waterfalls, rocky peaks, and amazing views.
