Timberville is an idyllic town nestled in the Shenandoah Valley. It offers views of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the Appalachian Mountains to the west. Located in Rockingham County along the banks of the Shenandoah River’s North Fork, it is just minutes away from Interstate 81.

A Brief History
The town’s earliest settlers were the Pennsylvania Dutch from the Shenandoah Valley. Timberville traces its roots two forts: one just west of its current location and another one near the Shenandoah River.
The river played a crucial role in the town’s growth, providing residents with an easy means of transporting goods. Before long, a general store was opened. In succeeding years, so would a tannery, a pottery shop, a hemp mill, a blacksmith, and a saddle and harness shop.
The Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) has placed the Timberville Historic District on the Virginia Landmarks Register, and residents eagerly await its approval.

Timberville is considered a sparse suburban neighborhood, where about 60% of the homes are owner-occupied, and about 40% are rental units.
Most of the houses for sale in the area are sizable single-family homes that offer more than enough space. Architectural styles span a broad spectrum from contemporary log cabins to Cape Cod homes and brick-facade houses. These may be located near downtown, just minutes away from everyday conveniences, or they can be located in quieter and more secluded parts of town.

The town is served by three excellent public schools: Plains Elementary School, J. Frank Hillyard Middle School, and Broadway High School.
